Introduction

Chi-Wen Lung, Ph.D., is currently a Professor and Chair of the Department of Creative Product Design and an affiliate faculty member of the Department of Bioinformatics and Medical Engineering at Asia University. He received his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from National Yang-Ming University in 2008. Dr. Lung completed postdoctoral training at the Institute of Intelligent Machines, Chinese Academy of Sciences, where he developed advanced rehabilitation research instruments integrating information technology and biomechanics.

With an interdisciplinary background spanning industrial design, biomedical engineering, and medical device development, Dr. Lung holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Industrial Design from Dayeh University and Tatung University, Taiwan. He previously served as a Supervisor at the Job Accommodation Office, Bureau of Labor Affairs, Taipei City Government, and brings six years of hands-on industry experience in medical product R&D, along with over 17 years of full-time university teaching.

Dr. Lung’s research focuses on soft tissue biomechanics, particularly pressure distribution between humans and assistive devices, and its implications for soft tissue injury prevention. His work has practical impact on the design of sports footwear, orthoses, wheelchair cushions, and human–machine interfaces for sports and rehabilitation devices. In recent years, his research has expanded to include medical imaging, gait analysis, and artificial intelligence–assisted diagnostics.

According to Scopus, Dr. Lung has published 89 articles (H-index 17) by 2025, including 48 SCI papers, with 11 Artificial Intelligence related articles as corresponding author. He ranks among the top 3% of researchers worldwide in the Frontiers Research Network and holds strong national and institutional rankings, reflecting his international impact across biomedical engineering, biomechanics, medical imaging, and AI-driven healthcare research.

This is the BioDesign Lab, an innovative research and development facility dedicated to advancing healthcare through innovative research and the use of cutting-edge technology.
