Q1: What are the eligibility requirements for applicants?

Applicants must be foreign nationals enrolled as bachelor's, master's, or PhD students at overseas universities or colleges. Enrollment must be maintained continuously from the time of application through the completion of the internship.

Q2: Is there any age limitation of this program?

There’s no age limitation of this internship program.

Q3: If I am a foreign national studying in Mainland China, Hong Kong, or Macau, am I eligible to apply?

Foreign nationals studying in Mainland China, Hong Kong, or Macau are not eligible to apply. Please refer to Article 3, Paragraph 1 of the Guidelines of the IIPP for details.

Q4: Are citizens of Mainland China, Hong Kong, or Macau eligible to apply?

Individuals holding nationality from Mainland China, Hong Kong, or Macau are not eligible to apply. Please refer to Article 3, Paragraph 1 of the Guidelines of the IIPP for details.

Q5: What application documents are required?

Applicants must upload a passport copy (or temporary alternative ID), enrollment certificate, CV, one recommendation letter, and a self-introduction video (serving as language proficiency proof per Article 3, Paragraph 2 of the Guidelines of the IIPP).

Q6: How many interns does this program recruit?

IIPP will recruit a maximum of 600 interns for internships scheduled between June 2026 and February 2027.

Q7: Are there any deadlines for the IIPP application?

For 2026, there are three application deadlines: February 13th, April 15th, and July 15th. The applicable deadline depends on the month you plan to start your internship. By the deadline, applicants must complete the matchmaking process with the PI on the IIPP platform, and the PI must upload the PI Consent Form.

Q8: When will I know my matching result?

After the applicant and PI complete the online matching process on the IIPP platform, your application will undergo a secondary review by the IIPP Office. If your application is approved, you will receive the IIPP Admission Notice approximately 8 to 10 weeks before your internship start date.

Q9: What should I do after receiving the Admission Notice?

After receiving the Admission Notice through the IIPP platform, you must submit the required declarations within one week. Once you submit the documents, NSTC will process your submission and issue an official admission document to confirm your internship. Please be sure to submit on time to allow sufficient processing time.

Q10: How do I apply for a visa to enter Taiwan?

To apply for your visa, you will need the Admission Notice issued by the IIPP Office and the NSTC Official Document forwarded by your PI. Present both documents to the overseas mission of the R.O.C. (Taiwan) in your country, along with any other required documents. Please note that you are responsible for the visa application fee. For visa-related questions, contact your local overseas mission of the R.O.C. (Taiwan) directly.

Q11: Do Interns of visa-exempt countries still need to apply for a visa?

Citizens of certain countries are granted visa-exempt entry with a stay of up to 90 days. However, we recommend applying for a visa, as visa-exempt status does not allow for extensions and you must depart within the authorized period.

Q12: Do the interns have subsidy for the internship?

NSTC will provide each intern with a subsidy of NT$1,000 per day for an internship period ranging from 28 to 90 days.

Q13: When will interns receive the subsidy payments?

Subsidy payments are disbursed on a monthly basis. The first payment will be issued within 30 working days after the internship begins. Subsequent payments require submission of reports and attendance records. Payment is not disbursed before the internship starts.

Q14: How do I get my subsidy?

Interns should hand in monthly reports and the subsidy would be delivered by host institutions accordingly.

Q15: Will the subsidy amount change if I modify my internship schedule?

Yes. The subsidy will be recalculated based on the revised internship duration. Extensions are not permitted, and the internship cannot be deferred to other months or transferred to a different batch.

Q16: What expenses is the intern responsible for bearing?

Interns are responsible for airfare, visa fees, living and accommodation costs in Taiwan, insurance, and any internship-related fees required by the host institution. This includes utilities (electricity, internet) and facility usage fees, regardless of whether accommodation is arranged by the host institution.

Q17: When is the deadline to submit the final report?

TReport submission deadlines are based on your internship duration:

1. Monthly reports are due on the 21st of the first and second months.

2. The final report is due 5 days before your internship ends.

The IIPP platform will send system-generated email reminders 5 days before each report deadline.

Q18: How is intellectual property managed during the internship?

The ownership of research results follows the policies of the supervisor’s home institution. PIs are advised to clarify related terms with interns before the internship begins.
