Dr. Chiang's Lab

Dr. Shao-Chin Chiang is a US-trained clinician with over two decades of professional experience in clinical pharmacy and hospital leadership. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University in Taiwan, holding appointments in both the Department of Pharmacy and the Ph.D. Program in Regulatory Science and Policy. Alongside his academic roles, Dr. Chiang serves as the Founder and President of the Taiwan Hematology and Oncology Pharmacy Association, as well as the Director of the Center of Advanced Pharmacy Education at the Koo Foundation Sun Yat-Sen Cancer Center.
Dr. Shao-Chin Chiang's lab provides a collaborative, multidisciplinary space for research that directly shapes modern healthcare standards. One of the lab's primary focuses is pharmacoeconomics and cost-effectiveness modeling for cutting-edge cancer therapies, including immunotherapies and biosimilars [1-8]. A second major pillar is pharmacy education and workforce development, where Dr. Chiang has led national initiatives to establish Entrustable Professional Activities and learning milestones for postgraduate pharmacist training in Taiwan [9-11]. Dr. Chiang's other key research interests include hazardous drug handling [12-14], hospital resource management [15], pharmacoepidemiology [16], and regulatory science [17-18].

Dr. Shao-Chin Chiang earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the National Taiwan University School of Pharmacy. He then went on to obtain his Doctor of Pharmacy from the Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions in Omaha, Nebraska. Following his studies, Dr. Chiang completed residency training at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics.
Job Description
We are seeking motivated, talented international students to join our team through the NSTC International Internship Pilot Program. As an intern, you may select one primary research track to focus on during your time with us.
- Code-Switching Speech-to-Text (STT) in a Clinical Setting
- Conduct a systematic, comparative study evaluating a new bilingual (Mandarin-English) medical STT software against the existing system at a cancer center; analyze both platforms across metrics like linguistic accuracy and clinical safety to help optimize documentation processes for physicians.
- Sterile Hazardous Compounding
- Perform cross-national surveys of sterlie hazardous compounding practices, identifying regional variations and operational benchmarks
- Pharmacy Education
- Investigate pharmacist competency frameworks, contributing toward designing structured milestones, assessment benchmarks, or workplace observation tools for those undergoing advanced clinical training
- Regulatory Science
- Research global and domestic regulatory landscapes governing biologics; evaluate interchangebility data and anaylze market trends regarding biosmiilar uptake and policy drivers
Preferred Intern Educational Level
Current undergraduate or graduate students with a strong academic record in pharmacy, public health, health informatics, regulatory science, or a related field.
