Chemistry

Introduction

Dr. Leung obtained his bachelor's degree from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Ph. D. degree at the same university under the supervision of Prof. Guochen Jia working on the synthesis of tungsten complexes containing metal-carbon multiple bonds.

Later, he moved to Academia Sinica carrying out postdoctoral research on dicarbon chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Tiow-gan Ong. After a short visit to Ruhr-Universität Bochum in the Viktoria Gessner's group, he started his independent career at the National Sun Yat-sen University as an assistant professor.

We are a research group with research interests in synthetic organometallic and main group chemistry.

Our laboratory has an N2-filled glovebox designed to create an oxygen-free environment, essential for working with air-sensitive catalysts.  The glovebox equipped with a freezer, ensures optimal temperature control, allowing for the storage, handling, and crystallization of catalysts under precise conditions. In addition to the glovebox, Dual manifold Schlenk lines are available for routine synthesis of ancillary ligands for catalyst development.

Preferred Intern Educational Level

Applicants should have completed a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a closely related field.

Skill sets or Qualities

Applicants should have a solid foundation in basic chemistry, particularly in laboratory techniques and safe chemical handling. Prior experience in synthetic chemistry, inorganic or organometallic laboratory work, or handling air- and moisture-sensitive compounds is highly desirable. Familiarity with standard characterization techniques such as NMR, IR, UV–Vis spectroscopy, or basic analytical methods is an advantage.

Internship-related fee required by the school/institution

Interns who conduct their internship on campus must apply as visiting students at least 1 month before their arrival. They are required to pay the fees listed on this page
