Introduction

Dr. Chia-Fu Chou, currently served as a Distinguished Research Fellow and Deputy Director at Institute of Physics, Academia Sinica(IoP/AS) and the ex-Chair of TaiwanInternational Graduate Program (TIGP)-Nano S&T Program in AS. He received his B.S. from National Tsing Hua University in 1986, and Ph.D. from SUNY-Buffalo in 1996, both in Physics. From 1997-2000, he was an NIH Postdoctoral Fellow at Princeton University in both Physics and Molecular Biology Departments. In 2000, he joined Motorola Labs in Tempe, AZ, as a Lead Scientist, and a year later PrincipalStaff Scientist. In late 2002, he co-founded the interdisciplinary Center of Applied Nanobioscience in Biodesign Instituteat Arizona State University, and served as an Associate Professor and Principal Investigator before joining IoP/AS in 2006. He is well known in the fields of micro/nanofluidics,DNA polymer dynamics,and 2D melting. He conducts multidisciplinary research at the boundaries between the physical and life sciences by applying engineering (micro/nanofabrication) techniques in making micro/nanofluidic structures and nanodevices for the development of novel platforms for biosensing, molecular manipulation, tissue engineering, and molecular and cellular biophysics study. He organized/co-organized several international conferences, and is best known in the microfluidics community as a pioneer of nanofluidics for DNA polymer dynamics studies and an inventor of electrodeless (insulator-based) dielectrophoresis for molecule/cell trapping. He was awarded 2014 NSTC Outstanding Research Award, Academia Sinica Investigator Award (2020-2024), 2023 National Innovation Award, and 2024 NSTC Future Tech Award.

In the Nanobioscience lab, we conduct multidisciplinary research at the boundaries between the physical and life sciences on one hand and engineering on the other, in the emerging field of nanobioscience and technology, including biosensors, micro/nanofluidics, single molecule and cellular biophysics, bioMEMS, and tissue engineering. Consequently, our group consists of scientists not only with very diverse backgrounds, but also with love and passion to lives.
