Introduction

Ivan is an artist and a researcher. He studied physics at Imperial College London, and subsequently obtained his PhD from Max-Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems in Germany. He worked as an independent artist for 10 years before becoming Assistant Professor at the National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) in Taiwan, where he founded the Future Narratives Lab. He was a resident artist at iMAL (BE) in 2014. His current works explore new ways to narrate contemporary issues with science-inspired artistic representations. He enjoys engaging the public and making them wonder about the internal mechanism of our world and how all things are connected by simple and elegant ideas.  His works have been exhibited in renowned venues such as Ars Electronica (AT), IRCAM (FR), Bauhaus Museum Weimar (DE), Chroniques Biennales (FR), ISEA 2025 (KR), LEV Festival (ES), National Taiwan Museum of Fine Art (TW), and Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Art (TW), as well as collected by institutions such as Imperial College London, National Taiwan University, and Le Meridien Taipei. He regularly publishes academic articles in international journal and conferences, and serves as a reviewer for them. He is also a juror for the National Culture and Arts Foundation (Taiwan).

We investigate emergent issues arising from the complex relations between humanity, nature and technology in the contemporary world via practice-based research. Questions are our answers. Our goal is to shape the questions clearer in order to engage people from different disciplines in meaningful conversations, on topics such as climate change, sustainability, emerging technologies and ethics, and futurism. The method we use is a combination of art and science, experimenting with all kinds of media, including but not limited to AI, audio/visual synthesis, sonification, AR/VR, motion capture, digital fabrication and other interactive devices.
