Dr. Mu-Rong (Denis) Kao is an Assistant Professor at the School of Pharmacy, Taipei Medical University (TMU). His research sits at the interface of enzymology, protein engineering and glycobiology, with a strong focus on developing innovative enzymatic strategies to generate structurally defined glycoconjugates for biomedical and pharmaceutical applications. Dr. Kao has extensive experience in recombinant enzyme discovery and production, glycan structural analysis, and therapeutic protein glycoengineering, aiming to build scalable workflows that enable next-generation biopharmaceutical development and functional glycomolecule synthesis.
The Kao Lab (TMU School of Pharmacy) focuses on developing enzymatic platforms for glycan remodeling and glycosylation engineering, enabling the production of structurally defined glycoconjugates. Our lab integrates enzyme discovery, recombinant protein expression using microbial systems such as E. coli and yeast, protein engineering, and glycan analytics (LC/HPLC, HPAEC and LC-MS) to understand and manipulate glycosylation for therapeutic and bioactive applications.
