Introduction

Dr. Ting-Jing Shen is an Assistant Professor in the School of Medical Laboratory Science and Biotechnology at Taipei Medical University (TMU). Prior to joining TMU’s faculty, Dr. Shen completed postdoctoral training at Chung Shan Medical University and then served as a Scientist at Panlabs Discovery Services Taiwan, Ltd. She has also held research positions at Academia Sinica and National Cheng Kung University, contributing to her extensive experience in experimental virology and infectious disease research. Dr. Shen’s research focuses on viral infectious diseases and viral pathogenesis, with particular interest in understanding host-pathogen interactions and developing relevant animal disease models for research. Her work spans key areas of microbiology and immunology, helping to elucidate mechanisms of infection and host immune responses that are critical for advancing translational research and therapeutic strategies. Currently, she leads research projects that investigate topics such as the liver-brain axis in psychiatric disease following dengue virus infection and the interactions between immunophenotype maturation and microbiota dysbiosis in periviable infants, reflecting her commitment to addressing complex biomedical challenges through interdisciplinary research.

Our research integrates virology, immunology, and translational medicine, with an emphasis on the establishment and application of relevant animal models to investigate infection-associated pathology. Current projects include studies on dengue virus-associated neuropsychiatric outcomes and the interplay between immune maturation and microbiota dysbiosis in vulnerable populations. Through interdisciplinary approaches, our lab aims to elucidate mechanisms of virus-induced disease and to provide insights that may facilitate the development of preventive and therapeutic strategies for infectious diseases.

Research Topics
  • Dengue virus pathogenesis: Investigation of the mechanisms of dengue virus infection and antiviral strategies.
  • Immune development: Exploration of immune maturation in preterm Infants.
