Research Field
Professor Pei-Feng Liu is a Professor and Chairman of the Department of Biomedical Science and Environmental Biology at Kaohsiung Medical University. She holds joint faculty appointments in the Bachelor Program in Life Sciences, the Master Program in Medicinal Chemistry and Biotechnology, and the PhD Program in Life Sciences at Kaohsiung Medical University, as well as a joint associate professorship at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences, National Sun Yat-sen University. In addition, she serves as an Adjunct Research Fellow in the Department of Medical Research at Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital.
Professor Liu received extensive research training through her postdoctoral fellowship at the School of Medicine, University of California, San Diego, and the Veterans Medical Research Foundation, followed by her experience as a Visiting Scientist at the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute in San Diego, USA. Prior to joining Kaohsiung Medical University, she also served as a Senior Assistant Research Fellow at Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital. Her academic career reflects a strong commitment to biomedical research, education, and interdisciplinary collaboration, with a focus on translational research that bridges basic science and clinical applications.
The Liu Pei-Feng Laboratory at at the Department of Biomedical Science and Environmental Biology, Kaohsiung Medical University focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of disease and identifying novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Under the leadership of Professor Pei-Feng Liu, the lab integrates tumor biology, bacterial pathogenesis, molecular medicine, and biomarker discovery to investigate critical biological processes that underlie cancer progression and infectious diseases. A major goal of the research is to screen and validate potential biomarkers for various tumors and pathogenic bacteria to elucidate their molecular roles and evaluate their clinical applications in diagnosis, prognosis, and targeted therapy. The lab combines cutting-edge molecular and cellular approaches with translational perspectives to advance both fundamental knowledge and practical medical solutions.
1. Identification and screening of potential biomarkers associated with various human cancers
2. Investigation of molecular mechanisms underlying tumor initiation, progression, and metastasis
3. Study of pathogenic bacteria and their roles in human diseases
4. Characterization of bacterial virulence factors and host–pathogen interactions
5. Evaluation of the clinical applications of biomarkers in disease diagnosis and prognosis
6. Development of targeted therapeutic strategies based on molecular and biomarker research
7. Integration of tumor biology, bacterial pathogenesis, and molecular medicine for translational research
