Introduction

Professor Chor-Kheng Lim is a Full Professor and Chair of the Department of Art and Design at Yuan Ze University, Taiwan, where she also serves as Director of the Art Center. Originally from Malaysia, he received his Ph.D. in Architecture from National Chiao Tung University (2007), specializing in digital design and fabrication.

With over 18 years of teaching and research experience, Professor Lim leads CKfablab, focusing on the intersection of design, technology, and social impact. Her research spans digital fabrication, interactive design, gerontechnology, AI/VR/AR applications, and intergenerational care design. He has published in SCI journals including Design Studies and Sensors, and regularly presents at top-tier conferences such as CAADRIA.

Professor Lim is passionate about mentoring international students and has supervised TEEP research interns from India and Malaysia since 2021.

CKfablab is a Digital Fabrication Laboratory established in 2012 at Yuan Ze University. We focus on bridging design and technology through hands-on research and creative practice. Our research areas include:

- Digital Design and Fabrication (3D printing, laser cutting, CNC)
- Interactive Design and Sensing Technology
- Gerontechnology and Intergenerational Care Products
- AI/VR/AR Applications in Design
- Maker Education and Cross-disciplinary Design.

The lab is equipped with advanced fabrication tools including 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, robotic arms, and various prototyping equipment. We collaborate with hospitals, long-term care institutions, and elementary schools on social impact projects. Notable achievements include winning the Stanford Design Challenge Bronze Award (2019) for our intergenerational gaming device "Pillow Fight," which has been deployed in over 34 care facilities serving more than 2,000 elderly users across Taiwan.

Research Topics

1. AI-Enhanced Interactive Design: Developing AI-VR integrated systems for clinical training and creative applications, including gesture-controlled interfaces and generative design tools.

2. Gerontechnology and Intergenerational Design: Creating technology products that connect generations, with emphasis on non-pharmacological interventions for dementia care and smart living systems for elderly independence.

3. Digital Fabrication and Parametric Design: Exploring the integration of computational design methods with physical making, including custom 3D-printed medical devices and wax-based art generation systems.

4. Design Education Innovation: Developing pedagogical frameworks that combine design thinking with computational thinking, including creative coding with p5.js and cross-disciplinary maker education.

5. IoT and Sensing Technology: Researching indoor spatial behavior perception systems using capacitive sensors and kirigami structures for elderly care environments.
