Medicine

Introduction

Dr. Kuo is a Professor in the Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy at the College of Medicine, National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan (Republic of China, ROC). He also serves as the Director of the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences within the same college and is the President of the Association of Anatomists of the ROC.

Dr. Kuo's lab primarily utilizes animal models to investigate the underlying mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease and depression, aiming to better understand their pathogenesis and identify potential therapeutic targets. In addition to behavioral and molecular studies in these models, his lab employs a wide range of advanced techniques to examine the structure and function of the central nervous system. These methods include chemogenetics, immunohistochemistry, electrophysiology, imaging technologies, and biochemical analyses, allowing for a comprehensive exploration of neuronal function, neuroinflammation, and neurodegenerative processes.

Research Topics

Dr. Kuo's lab is actively engaged in three key research areas:

1. Investigating the Pathophysiology of Alzheimer’s Disease and Exploring Potential Treatments
2. Understanding the Role of Metabolic Disorders in Depression
3. Exploring the Effects of Physical Exercise on Brain Health

Honor

Over the past five years, Dr. Kuo has secured multiple research grants to support his studies on neurodegenerative diseases and mental health disorders. These grants have enabled his lab to conduct cutting-edge research on the mechanisms underlying Alzheimer’s disease and depression. In addition to his research achievements, Dr. Kuo has been recognized for his excellence in teaching, receiving several awards for his contributions to medical education and mentorship.
