Laboratory of Vaccine Adjuvant Research
This laboratory is a vaccine adjuvant analysis laboratory located in the Veterinary Building 2, Graduate institute of Animal Vaccine Technology, Pingtung University of Science and Technology. It is an independent research space capable of bacterial, cell and virus culture, and has basic biotechnology analysis functions. The laboratory projects currently performs vaccine antigen and adjuvant production and analysis, vaccine preparation testing and animal test results analysis.
The laboratory recruits 1 undergraduate student, 4 masters and 1 doctoral student every year. Currently, there is 1 undergraduate student, 4 master students, and 3 doctoral students (from Vietnam, Pakistan, and Papua New Guinea).
The research focuses on the development of "vaccine adjuvants", which are applied to the research of new vaccines for economic animals, such as pigs and cattle. At present, the vaccine adjuvant research focus on the related adjuvants that promote mucosal immunity, adjuvants such as particular adjuvants (chitosan, sodium alginate , plant extracts, etc.), biological adjuvants (flagellin, enterotoxin LTB, plant extracts, etc.) and oil adjuvants (vitamin A, special oils, etc.). We analyzed the characteristics of adjuvants and immune-inducing ability, and then combined the adjuvants with various antigens such as inactivation, subunit, and DNA antigen, Various new vaccines are prepared and analyzed, and they are expected to be applied in the animal vaccine industry.

Job Description
The intern will assist in the production and preliminary analysis of vaccine antigens, including recombinant proteins or virus-derived antigens. Depending on the intern’s background and laboratory progress, the work may involve mammalian cell culture, virus propagation under supervision, sample collection, protein quantification, SDS-PAGE/Western blot analysis, ELISA-based antigen detection, and preparation of experimental reports. The internship is designed to provide practical training in vaccine protein production and antigen preparation for animal vaccine research.
Preferred Intern Educational Level
Undergraduate senior students, master’s students, or early-stage Ph.D. students in veterinary medicine, biotechnology, animal science, life sciences, microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, or related fields are preferred.
Skill sets or Qualities
Applicants with basic laboratory experience in cell culture, microbiology, molecular biology, protein analysis, or virology are preferred. Experience with aseptic techniques, pipetting, SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, ELISA, PCR, or basic data analysis would be advantageous. The intern should be careful, responsible, willing to learn, able to follow biosafety and laboratory rules, and capable of working both independently and as part of a research team. Good communication skills and accurate record-keeping are also important.
