Introduction

Professor Chin-Tsan Wang received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Aeronautics and Astronautics from National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan. He is an internationally recognized scholar in microbial fuel cells (MFCs), bioenergy systems, and bio-inspired flow engineering, with a long-term focus on wastewater-to-energy conversion and sustainable engineering technologies.

Professor Wang has made foundational contributions to buffer-free MFC operation, advanced cathode aeration architectures, and dimensionless performance modeling, effectively bridging fundamental theory with field-scale wastewater applications. His representative works have been published in top-tier journals, including Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, Applied Energy, and Energy, journals widely regarded as benchmarks in energy and sustainability research.

His research outcomes have led to patented technologies and real-world deployment in wastewater treatment facilities, demonstrating significant societal and industrial impact. Professor Wang’s excellence has been recognized through major national awards, including the Y. Z. Hsu Science Paper Award, and his inclusion among the World’s Top 2% Scientists. He currently serves as Director of the Space Computing Technology Center at National Ilan University, extending bioenergy research toward microgravity and space applications.

Why TFBE Labs?

TFBE Labs offers a unique research environment where green energy, bioelectrochemical systems, and space technology converge. Our flagship research on microbial fuel cells under microgravity places students at the frontier of space-enabled sustainable energy and life-support technologies. Lab members gain hands-on experience in advanced experimentation, microfluidic and bioelectrochemical system design, and high-level numerical simulation, while collaborating with international partners and space-related research platforms. TFBE Labs emphasizes high-impact publications, interdisciplinary training, and global academic exposure, preparing students not only for academic careers but also for leadership roles in energy, space, and advanced technology industries.

International Student Recruitment Version (Professional & friendly)

TFBE Labs conducts interdisciplinary research in green energy, microbial fuel cells, microfluidics, and bioenergy systems.
Our current main focus is the study of microbial fuel cells under microgravity, combining laboratory experiments and computational simulations to address challenges in space technology and sustainable energy.

We invite highly motivated Master’s and Ph.D. students, as well as international visiting researchers, to join our lab through degree programs, internships, or short-term research stays.
