Kuma Lab
Research Field
Pao-Chun Lin is an assistant professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, National Cheng Kung University. He obtained his doctoral degree from Takeuchi Laboratory, Tokyo Institute of Technology. Before he started his doctoral study, he worked in NCREE as an assistant researcher. He participated in several large-scale tests. His research topics focus on seismic design of steel structures and the application of buckling-restrained brace in different structural systems.
The KUMA Lab at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), led by Professor Pao-Chun Lin, focuses on the research and development of timber-steel buckling-restrained braces (T-BRBs). These innovative structural elements aim to replace traditional materials like mortar and steel pipes with timber, enhancing lateral stiffness and energy dissipation in high-rise wooden buildings. The lab's studies have explored various confinement methods, including the use of screws, bolts, and carbon fiber straps, to improve the performance and failure modes of T-BRBs. Their experimental results have demonstrated promising energy dissipation capabilities and have contributed to the development of design recommendations for wood-steel composite elements.
