My lab research lies in reproductive and developmental biology, with the primary research focusing on mammalian somatic cell reprogramming, regulating mammalian embryo implantation and development, and preserving reproductive capacity in livestock and poultry. Over the past five years, I have also used feather development in ornamental birds as a research platform to explore the relationship between seasonal hormonal changes in birds with seasonal reproduction and the differentiation of feather follicle stem cells. The research models include both avian and mammalian species.
1. Isolation/induction of pluripotent cells from chicken and mice
2. In vitro differentiation of stem cells
3. Cryopreservation of sperm and embryos
4. In vitro maturation and culture of porcine oocytes and ovarian follicles
5. Regulation of feather morphological changes with seasons

Job Description
The students will conduct techniques such as real-time RT-PCR, Western blotting, and immunostaining. Also, they need to know how to conduct the in vitro maturation (IVM) of porcine cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs) to study the change of important genes/proteins in porcine COCs/cumulus cells during the process of in vitro maturation (IVM).
Preferred Intern Educational Level
The undergraduate or graduate students are qualified, as long as they have learned the courses of reproductive biology or animal physiology, as well as molecular biology.
Skill sets or Qualities
Those who are interested in reproductive biology, careful and patient, are welcome.
Job Description
Students have to learn how to collect the feather samples and analyze the molecular changes during the regeneration of feathers to understand how the molecular network regulates the growth of feathers. The analysis methods include the real-time RT-PCR, paraffin wax sections, immunostaining, and plasmid construction.
Preferred Intern Educational Level
Those who have learned basic molecular biology and biology are qualified. They could be undergraduate or graduate students.
Skill sets or Qualities
Those who have learned basic molecular biology and biology are welcome.
