Dr. Shang-Hua (Steve) Yang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and the College of Semiconductor Research at National Tsing Hua University. He also holds the position of Honorary Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Liverpool. Dr. Yang is renowned for his significant contributions to THz optoelectronics, communication, imaging, and innovative plasmonic photonics applications. His research findings are published in over 100 refereed papers in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. Dr. Yang has received several prestigious awards and scholarships, including the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society Doctoral Research Award (2014), the Taiwanese Government Scholarship to Study Abroad (2015), and the Joan and Irvin Jacobs TIX Institute Industry Scholar (2017, 2018). He was also honored with the MOST Young Scholar Fellowship (2018), the NTHU Young Faculty Research Award (2020), the Human Frontier Science Program Research Grant Award (2020), CIEE Excellent Electrical Engineer Award (2022), and Ta- You Wu Memorial Award (2024). He is a senior member of IEEE, Optica, and SPIE and has served on Technical Program Committee boards for IEEE and SPIE conferences. Dr. Yang currently serves as the Director of the NTHU THz Optics & Photonics Center, Taiwan’s first dedicated THz research center.
YRG was established in 2017 by Professor Shang-Hua Yang from the Department of Electrical Engineering at National Tsing Hua University. The group consists of approximately 15–25 members, including research assistants, Ph.D. students, master's students, undergraduate project students, and international exchange students. To date, its research covers diverse areas, ranging from novel material development, semiconductor nano-devices, key components for 6G communications, imaging systems, 6G wireless communication systems, deep learning computer vision model development, deep learning digital signal processing models, automated control systems, to applications in hypersensitivity, biomedicine, and drug detection. It is well-suited for individuals with backgrounds in engineering and science.

Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
1. Terahertz Optical Neural Network Development:
- Assist in the design and optimization of terahertz optical neural networks.
- Collaborate on experiments involving terahertz wave manipulation for data processing tasks.
- Analyze and interpret experimental data, preparing reports for further research exploration.
2. 3D Printing:
- Engage in the design and fabrication of 3D printed components for neural network prototypes.
- Operate and maintain 3D printing equipment, ensuring high-quality production standards.
- Develop and refine printing techniques to enhance the integration of terahertz applications.
3. Research Collaboration:
- Work with faculty members and other researchers to develop and implement research protocols.
- Present research findings at team meetings and contribute to publications in peer-reviewed journals.
4. Documentation and Reporting:
- Document experimental processes and results accurately.
- Assist in preparing comprehensive research reports and grant proposals.
5. Technical Support:
- Provide support in maintaining laboratory equipment and ensuring safety protocols are followed.
- Assist in training other team members and students in relevant technologies and methods.
Preferred Intern Educational Level
BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Skill sets or Qualities
- Strong background in terahertz technology, optical systems, or neural networks.
- Experience with 3D printing technologies and materials is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in data analysis software and programming languages relevant to research (e.g., MATLAB, Python).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
