Introduction

Yu-Cheng Chiu joined the Department of Chemical Engineering at Taiwan Tech. as a tenure-track assistant professor in August 2017. Currently, he is the Head of Polymer Morphology and Electronics Laboratory. Prior to joining the faculty, Yu-Cheng was a postdoc in the Zhenan Bao research group at Stanford University, where he studied on developing intrinsically stretchable/healable semiconductor and high-performance OFET by solution shearing. Before moving to Stanford, he received his PhD degree under the supervision from Prof. Wen-Chang Chen in December 2012 from the Chem. E at National Taiwan University and then stayed in the same group for his first post-doctoral research until Oct. 2014, where his research was aim to synthesize conjugated-based block copolymers for sensor applications and elucidate the electronic transporting behaviors at the semiconductor/polymer interfaces. BTW, he loves playing basketball very much.

My laboratory (Polymer Morphology & Electronics) specializes in the synthesis and characterization of rubber-like polymers, stretchable and self-healable polymers, nanocomposites, hydrophobic polymer membranes, and their application; polymer electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries; morphology polymers; fabrication of fully stretchable and self-healable thin film transistor devices; and fabrication of thin film transistor memory devices. In addition to polymer synthesis, we explore techniques, such as modifying existing polymer structures, nanoparticle incorporation, and surface modification, to impart additional functionalities. The laboratory members consist of a postdoctoral researcher, 4 Ph.D. students, and 13 Master students (including 6 international students). Our laboratory members are very friendly and enjoy working together, thus, we welcome students from different nationalities to work together to create novel research.

Research Topics

Our laboratory research topics are divided into 4 main parts, namely [1]. synthesis of stretchable and self-healable polymer, [2] synthesis of polymer electrolyte for lithium-ion batteries, [3] morphology of polymers, and [4] fabrication of thin film transistor devices (TFT) and TFT memory devices.
