The Taiwan Institute of Sports Science (TISS), founded on September 16, 2023 in Kaohsiung, is Taiwan’s national hub for advancing applied sports science through interdisciplinary integration. Operating as an administrative corporation under the Ministry of Sports, TISS was established to move beyond fragmented, short-term projects and create a permanent, research-driven, and technology-enabled ecosystem. Its central objective is “to promote our research achievements in sport science and to enhance our international athletic competitiveness.”

TISS’s core mission is to provide sports science support services for the training and competition of outstanding national team athletes, while also promoting sports science research and conducting sports technology R&D. These efforts aim to strengthen Taiwan’s sports science capacity, enhance its international competitiveness, and help the nation achieve excellent results in major international sporting events such as the Olympic Games, Asian Games, and World University Games. The institute integrates expertise across motion analysis, tactical scouting, injury prevention, equipment innovation, and data-driven training, ensuring athletes benefit from cutting-edge science and technology.

At its heart, TISS is more than a research institute—it is a living laboratory where engineering, artificial intelligence, data systems, and human movement science intersect. By combining advanced research with practical applications, TISS is building a sustainable foundation for Taiwan’s athletic excellence, while also shaping a forward-looking National Sports Data Ecosystem that connects competitive performance with public health for the benefit of society at large.
